Are you a skilled worker dreaming of immigrating to Canada? The Express Entry program is your gateway to permanent residency. But here's the burning question: Can you have more than one Express Entry profile? Let's dive into the details and find out!
Express Entry is a system designed by the Government of Canada to manage applications for permanent residency from skilled workers. It uses the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to rank candidates based on various factors such as education, skills, work experience, and language ability. The higher your CRS score, the better your chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence.
According to Canadian immigration law, you can only have one active Express Entry profile at a time. Creating multiple profiles will not improve your chances of being invited to apply for Canadian permanent residency. Additionally, it will not enable you to be invited under a different program.
While the rule allows only one active profile, there have been cases of candidates creating duplicate profiles using different credentials. In the past, the number of duplicate profiles in the pool was relatively low, and no action was taken to remove them. However, in 2022, the number of duplicate profiles grew significantly.
On January 9th, 2023, a report identified 29,945 duplicate Express Entry profiles associated with 10,229 unique candidates. Interestingly, 70% of these duplicates had no change in CRS scores, indicating that it was not an attempt to manipulate the system. Furthermore, 53% of the duplicates had been inactive for 100 days, suggesting that many candidates abandoned their duplicate profiles.
While there are no clear integrity concerns within the Express Entry system, the growing number of duplicate profiles may prompt Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to take action and "clean up" the pool. This ensures fairness and transparency for all candidates.
To be eligible for Express Entry, you must meet the criteria of at least one of the following federal economic immigration programs:
Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP): Requires at least one year of continuous full-time or equivalent paid work experience in a skilled occupation, language proficiency, and educational credentials.
Canadian Experience Class (CEC): Provides permanent residence to international students and foreign workers with Canadian work experience.
Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP): Available to candidates with at least two years of full-time work experience in a skilled trade.
